i saw this on 35 mm at weird wednesdays at alamo. some guys tried to tell me too much about the movie before it started. they had mics and were friends. i wanted to yell at them and tell them to kiss. they were being overly earnest.
about the film. wow, the guys weren't wrong. the animation was amazing. hand drawn holographs and the detail everywhere. the TV aesthetic parts were doubly animated. they said 300 animators were working on this project and it almost bankrupted the studio. i thought that was blah blah blah but after seeing it i think that was something I would have wondered about.
oh yeah and the music has never been released. it was all pretty good, but it was kinda weird that the best song was in the first 5 minutes.
the bad guy was pretty darn evil, but i dont really know if it mattered. there were lighthearted bits here and there. sometimes the crowd laughed, like when someone's butt showed through a pipe. i think i was pretty in sync with the crowd for the most part, which is rare for me. usually i laugh alone.
the story showed real thought and the message was timeless, a real masterpiece. like the guys with mics that didn't kiss said, it is better than heavy metal.
