This guy wants to climb a big mountain without a rope.
He has done a lot of other big mountains without a rope.
But there is drama.
He has a small amygdala.
He has a girlfriend, and he climbs with her and keeps geeting injured.
What is the drama in this film? Well they also feature the filmmakers, who are also climbers, who are also friends. They know that being filmed adds an extra element of distraction or motivation.
They don't really talk about how they are going to keep that to a minimum except they do show a bit of the remote camera gear. I guess they didn't want to film the filming too much? But they do, especially with the guy on the ground with a telescopic lens. They have a bunch of shots of him.
This movie made me feel physically ill at times. My hands are sweating right now. But yeah, it seemed a bit hacked up at times. Maybe it was the voice overs over the photos, and comparing them to the sound of the voices as they spoke naturally throughout the film. I can't really blame them for trying to maximize the drama. I don't doubt he climbed the wall.
But it did seem a bit of a star-making rather than film making. Maybe that quest for purity. I dunno, this film did keep me awake.
